CRONIN AND COMPANY TO BE SOLD
TO AGENCY LEADERS
Wolfberg and Manning Take Over March 31
GLASTONBURY, CT (February 27, 2008) William J. Cronin, Jr., President and Chairman of Cronin and Company, Inc., announced today that the 60-year-old marketing communications firm is being sold as of March 31, 2008. The firm will be sold internally to Steve Wolfberg, currently Cronin's Chief Creative Officer, and Kim Manning, the agency's Director of Strategic Planning.
Cronin, whose father founded the agency in 1947, has served as its president since 1984, working with partners John Riccio and Mike Wheeler. Cronin and Riccio will step down on March 31; Wheeler will stay through the end of 2008 in an advisory capacity.
"We could not feel more confident in passing the reins to Steve and Kim," Cronin said. "Both have held leadership positions here for almost 20 years, and both are well-prepared to run this company. Steve has built one of the finest creative groups in the country, as evidenced by our success in recent years in winning new business coast-to-coast. Kim has been chief steward of the exceptional client service that is a hallmark of our agency, in addition to being our resident expert on brand strategy and planning.
"They share an exciting vision of where they will take Cronin in the years ahead, and we have no doubt they'll accomplish their goals," Cronin added.
Steve Wolfberg will become Partner and President of Cronin and Company LLC, retaining his title of Chief Creative Officer. Wolfberg began his career at Cronin in 1989 as Copy Director. Since then, he has won hundreds of industry awards for his work in all media while building a creative group recognized nationally for its originality and effectiveness, helping Cronin win new clients across the country. A frequent guest as the "Advertising Guru" on Connecticut's top radio station, Wolfberg has also appeared on Bloomberg News, MSNBC and ESPN as a commentator on the state of advertising. A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Wolfberg lives in Avon, Connecticut, with his wife Jennifer and two children.
Kim Manning will be Cronin and Company's new Partner and Chief Operating Officer. In addition to overseeing the firm's client service function, Manning currently leads all of the agency's strategic and brand planning initiatives. Her style is rooted in the understanding that great strategy needs to accomplish two things inspire brilliant communications and get great results. Over the years, she has created strategies to launch new brands, and helped existing brands become more competitive. Manning is an occasional guest lecturer at the University of Connecticut and Quinnipiac University. A graduate of the University of Connecticut, she lives in Cheshire, Connecticut with her husband Brad and two sons.
"The potential here is amazing," Wolfberg said. "We are poised for greatness to become a true regional and national force. More than half of our accounts are national brands; our Connecticut-based accounts are market leaders. We used to be known as a local agency that did national-caliber work. Now we're a national brand agency that happens to be located in a quaint Connecticut suburb. Everyone here is energized by what lies ahead of us."
"We're eager to build on what we believe has been Cronin's greatest strength our ability to give our clients the best solution for their marketing problem," said Manning. "We're discipline-neutral. We work with clients to find what communications tools make the most sense for their situation whether it's advertising, new media, public relations, direct marketing, or a combination of any of them. And because these capabilities are under one roof, clients have the benefit of all of our thinking, all of the time. We call it The Power of the Hallway.'"
Both Wolfberg and Manning acknowledged the legacy left behind by the Cronin family, which built the firm into Connecticut's largest agency over 60 years. "The first decision we made was not to change the name of the agency," said Wolfberg. "As marketers, we know you don't mess with a brand with such tremendous positive equity."
